- The base is located in the forest next to the new construction of Taichung's Greenmap, and we needed to find a way to preserve nature, respond to architecture, and take on history on the border between the city and the park. -

Soil, roots, linear traces of airfields, urban sections and fungal networks intertwine and coexist to form a thick but gap-filled layer. Instead of starting from the ground modeling, we chose to dig down - starting from the trees on the ground, digging along the roots to open up the newly paved surface, and slowly stepping into a mirrored ramp led by linear markers, just like retracing the runway of an airport, or stepping into the rite of passage of a certain kind of temporal profile. This action echoes the flat language of the building itself, allowing the space to continue its narrative structure on a vertical level.

Finally, we reach the “Root Room” deep in the earth - a series of spatial archetypes shaped by the root system, cracking, twisting, and bending inward, as if pulled by the force of growth. They evoke associations with architectural columns and cave dwellings, offering different heights of observation, gathering and conversation. This is not just about designing a landmark, but about letting the landmark slowly grow out of the earth - history, life, and the underlying language of the city are now in dialogue here.
